저자소개

호레이쇼 앨저 (Horatio Alger, Jr)
1832~1899. 미국의 소설가. 메사추세츠주(州) 첼시(Chelsea) 출생.
유니테리언(삼위일체를 부인해 하나님의 존재만 인정하는 신교 교파) 교회 목사의 아들로 태어나 하버드대학에서 신학(神學)을 공부하였다. 2년간 목사로 활동하다 작가의 꿈을 안고 뉴욕으로 이주하였다. 가난한 소년이 도덕심(道德心)과 굳센 의지로 역경(逆境)을 딛고 마침내 성공한다는 소설 <누더기를 입은 딕 Ragged Dick>(1868)으로 베스트셀러 작가가 되었다. 주요 저서에 (1868) (1869> (1883) (1890) (1895) 등이 있다.
