‘진리에 대하여 Of Truth’ ‘죽음에 대하여 Of Death’ ‘종교의 통일에 대하여 Of Unity in Religion’ 등 58개의 주제별로 구성되어 있다.

저자소개

프랜시스 베이컨 (Francis Bacon)
1561~1626. 영국의 철학자, 정치가. 런던 출생.
근대 경험론의 선구자로 스콜라 철학을 비판하고, 관찰과 실험에 기초를 둔 귀납법(歸納法)을 확립하였다. 인간의 이성(理性)을 방해하는 장애물로 4가지의 우상(偶像), 즉 종족의 우상, 동굴의 우상, 시장의 우상, 극장의 우상 등을 꼽았다. 근대과학의 방법론에 커다란 영향을 주었으며, ＜뉴 아틀란티스＞에서 과학적 이상 국가(理想國家)의 모습을 묘사하기도 하였다. 주요 저서에 (1605) (1620) (1625) (1627) 등이 있다.
