START OF EDWARD BUTTONEYE AND HIS ADVENTURES
And, though he never could explain,
Our Edward with delight agreed;
So side by side, o’er hill and dale,
A flush o’erspread poor Edward’s cheek,
Sad Horace hastened to the spot
They walked straight past and soon were gone,
But Horace soon returned and said
To get a place where he could thrive
He found he hadn’t time to stop,
The next employment Edward found
Soon after that they came across
But Horace felt so very done
When Horace was quite well again
But when they reached the barrack- yard
And when at last he did succeed,
They led poor Edward such a dance
He wandered on with Horace till
He took them on his brawny back
This was for Edward the last straw,
So Edward was marched off to jail
Cold beads of perspiration stood
“ I know the hard times you’ve been through,”
