레오 톨스토이(1828-1910). 러시아의 작가, 사회 개량가. 프랑스의 루소의 영향을 받고 사회에서 농민 생활을 개선. 1855년 Tales from Sebastopol(세바스토폴 이야기)을 발표. 그의 대작 War and Peace(전쟁과 평화, 1864-1869)와 Anna Karenina(안나 카레니나, 1873-1877) . 1895년에는 러시아에서 박해받던 이단 교파 Doukhobors 교파에 편들면서 이 교파를 옹호하는 대소설 Resurrection(부활, 1899).
