주한 미국공사관. 선교사, 의사, 외교관, 이름 안련(安連)
웨슬리대학 신학부 졸업 마이애미 의학박사
북미 장로교 의료선교사
중국에 파견 후 조선에 입항한 최초 개신교 선교사
1891년 일본식 근대신문 ‘korean Repository’간행
영국 왕립 아시아협회 우리나라 지부 결성
1885년 우리나라 최초 서양식 병원 ‘광혜원(제중원)’ 설립 기반 마련 및 의료활동
고종에게 훈장 제수 받음
현재 연세의료원의 시발점이 된 인물
