<바가다드 기타> 영문판.
<바가바드 기타>는 <베다> <우파니샤드>와 함께 힌두교 3대 경전의 하나로 꼽힌다. 산스크리트어로 지고자(至高者), 또는 ‘신의 노래’라는 뜻이며, 기원전 2세기에서 기원후 5세기 사이에 형성된 것으로 추정된다. 왕권을 차지하기 위해 골육상잔(骨肉相殘)을 일삼는 현실에 회의를 품은 고대 인도국 왕자 ‘아르주나(Arjuna)’가 스승인 ‘크리슈나(Krishna)’에게 고뇌를 털어놓으면서 나눈 대화를 묶은 것으로 모두 7백구의 시로 이루어져 있다.
